PETOSKEY — Emmet County is getting ready to say goodbye to the season with an end-of-summer event.
This coming Sunday, Sept. 19, Emmet County and its Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting a “Goodbye to Summer Car Show” with an estimated 70-or-more cars on display at the Emmet County Fairgrounds.
“We’ve been wanting to bring more events at the fairgrounds and our other parks. We thought a car show was sort of the perfect events for us try again,” said parks and recreation programming and sales coordinator Austin LaVigne.
The upcoming event is both an attempt for a family friendly wrap up to summer and for the Department of Parks and Recreation to have more events throughout the county.
The county previously had a long-running car show and brought back a car show this past spring, what it hopes will be the first of many.
“I know that in the past the county had a variety of car shows with hundreds of vehicles and we thought these events would be a fun way to get back to having car shows and having some more family-fun events,” LaVigne said.
The upcoming car show is free to the public. However, those wanting to show off their car in the upcoming show must register between 9-11 a.m. on Sunday.
Registration is $10 per car and trophies for “best of show,” “best modern,” and “best classic” will be awarded during the show shortly after noon. Registered cars and the respective owners will also have a chance at winning some other grab bag prizes.
“We are expecting between 70 to 80 cars but we are hoping this is something that can grow year after year. We’d love to have over 100 cars,” said LaVigne.
The car show will also play host to live music and a selection of food trucks for an afternoon with something for everyone.
The event is open to the public from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will take place throughout the Emmet County Fairgrounds at 1129 Charlevoix Ave. in Petoskey.
