Between 1978 and 1981 BMW produced only 453 examples of the Giorgetto Giugiaro designed M1. Powered by the sublime M88/1 straight-six engine, the road cars were only produced to homologate the M1 for racing, most notably in BMW’s own ‘Pro-car’ series. Road cars produced an impressive 273 bhp from the 3.5 litre engine, but twin-turbocharged racers gave up to 850 bhp.
If you think it looks quite similar to my Maserati Bora then it’s no coincidence as Giugiaro penned both cars.
Here’s my take on a retro-mod ‘body in white’ racer – probably sacrilege if done to a real car, but this is LEGO!
