A 24-year-old Anaheim woman died early Tuesday, Feb. 23, in a crash that left the driver she was with arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.

Just before 2:10 a.m. a BMW sedan was traveling south on the 55 in the Tustin area, the CHP said in its report. At the wheel was 27-year-old Anthony Robles of Rowland Heights.

Just ahead, traveling in the same direction and lane, was a Lexus SUV.

“Due to Robles’ driving the BMW at unsafe speeds for existing traffic conditions, the front of the BMW collided with the rear of the Lexus, causing the Lexus to overturn,” the report says.

The crash happened near the connector with the I-5 Freeway.

The BMW passenger, whose name had not been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Lexus, a 22-year-old Newport Beach woman, was hospitalized for injuries that were only described as “moderate.”

Robles was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the CHP said, after he was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
