Rows of classic, custom and restored vehicles took up El Metro Park & Ride during the third annual WBCA Pipes and Stripes Car Show on Saturday.
With about 250 vehicles on display, car enthusiasts were able to share and admire each other’s labors of love. Avid car show participants like Jesus Muñoz was at the event and in the company of his 1937 glossy red Chevrolet pickup.
Muñoz found the pick up abandoned in a backyard and while it had no tires, he worked tirelessly to restore it to pristine condition. To date, Muñoz and his pride and joy have acquired 65 trophies. While Muñoz is an admirer of classic cars, he said he enjoys attending car shows because people admired his.
Dr. Manuel Gonzalez had his 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40 on display at the car show for the second year.
“I always wanted a land cruiser, it was like one of those bucket list items that I had on my vision statement from when I was a kid,” Gonzalez said.
As a car enthusiast, Gonzalez said he enjoys seeing the commitment his fellow car enthusiasts have made to their vehicles.
“It’s incredible. You may not technically like, say this kind of genre of cars, but they are unbelievable,” Gonzalez said. “The artistry on some of the paint jobs, the chrome, I mean the passion that these people have — it’s really impressive the amount of time and effort they put in.”
